Sydney to Brisbane tollway?

The NSW state government, particularly Michael Costa, must have been to some sort of collective toll way brainwashing session. The latest - a tollway all the way from Sydney to Brisbane, instead of upgrading the existing Pacific highway.

"A North Coast motorway, a toll road, is the most obvious way," Mr Costa said. Motorists could be charged about $50 one way to use the new road, while trucks would pay about $200.

If the quoted 44% of road that is currently only two lanes was upgraded to four lanes, not worrying about dual carriageway for now, that would be a good start. I've driven the road a few times in both directions, and parts really aren't in bad condition at all, it's just the known troublespots that could do with a fix up. A whole seperate road, regardless of the funding arrangements, is pretty out there.
