Exam Seat Numbers

From my inbox:

Please note that seat numbers for examinations on Camperdown/Darlington Campus will no longer be available on noticeboards at the Student Centre prior to the formal exam periods in June and November.

Finally, my uni has been dragged into the 21st century. After previously studying elsewhere it seems to me that in general, Sydney Uni is seriously living in the past when it comes to things like enrolment, exams and general administration.

I wish I had taken a photo of the dozens of noticeboards they used to put up near the Student Centre with dot matrix printouts listing every student, the subjects they were doing and their corresponding exam seat number. Most students never checked these noticeboards, of course, preferring just to 'wing it' on the day, turn up to the right exam location and check the printout there.

At UQ, they just handed us a seat number on a piece of cardboard as we walked into the exam room. Why on earth do seat numbers need to be preallocated weeks before the exam, anyway? Keep it simple, stupid.
